New SCOTUS Nominee – Alito

October 31, 2005 · Comments

Well the wall of sound has begun in the United states. The Hill, Whitehouse, MSM, Blogosphere and Supreme Court pundits are everywhere spinning all kinds of stories regarding the President's nomination of Alito to the Supreme Court.

Pat Roberts, Senator Orrin Hatch, Senator Frist are all grinning. Tammy Bruce is reservedly ok with it except for being disappointed that a woman was not nominated. Schumer is characteristically chagrined about the potential of the "clock turning back" on "rights." He basically says that Alito will legislate from the bench…what a waste of an opposing viewpoint. Opposing viewpoints should actually have substance, not fearmongering soundbytes. Hugh Hewitt agrees

As I type Senator Brownback is on Fox News saying that he is very excited and that Alito is an "outstanding" and "inspiring."

Many of my conservative and religious friends are thinking things through and I will evaluate what they are saying. I will also listen to what the radical left and the civil democrats have to say before making a firm decision.

I can say that I personally think that Alito's former decision, in the 3rd Circut, to not strike down a Pennsylvania law that stated a father should be notified of the mother's decision to have an abortion of his baby is a very forward thinking position. I believe he was the lone dissenter on striking that law down. It may not be the father's body carrying the baby for nine months but the baby came from his body (as much as the mother's). The child represents half of the father's genetic code. The baby is of course their own person but they are as much connected to the father's heart and soul as the mother's… for eternity which is much longer than nine months. I am glad Alito is a defender of Father's "rights" too.

Other power bloggers will keep running tabs on information as they are made available. Here are some of my favorites so far and I will update this post as things progress. You may want to visit the following because they will track updates more comprehensively than I will.
