Idol Confession

March 9, 2006 · 4 comments

Ok … don't tell anybody but …

I have watched the elimination shows for American Idol the past few weeks. I have watched both nights of singing this week and am going to watch the elimination show tonight….

I will have seen all three shows this week and I am afraid to say…I am hooked.
Hudnall sums up my thoughts for tonight's show perfectly.

I don’t know why people are embarrassed to like the show. It’s second to the Superbowl in ratings.
If anything, I think it’s a clue for the music industry to get behind, which is people want upbeat, entertaining music and not the negative drivel we’ve been forced to listen to in recent years.

Good point James. Speaking for mysef, I think my reluctance is because much of the buzz around the show is usually very judgmental and … well … shallow. I agree that it is better than the junk we have to put up with from the Pop machine but it is still a part of the pop machine.
I hate to admit that there are parts of popular culture I find entertaining which is a rebellious pride I guess. That is why I went ahead and posted what I did.
Well the show just started … gotta’ go :)

I’m glad you said this because I’ve been struggling with embarrassment. It doesn’t help to have two teenagers who accuse me of being obsessed with the show. Why do they say that? Because I make a point to watch it each week. That’s obsession to them. I can’t win!
