You had to know this was coming … Spammeristas

It appears the spammeristas have found my new DNS under the new service. One of the reasons I went back to TypePad is that they have a great service called TypeKey where users register once and they can use that registration to login to blogs all across the sphere. Most of the top dog blogs (which I am not), MT and TypePad blogs have TypeKey Registration set as a filter for their comments.

It stops bot Spammers in their tracks. Typepad also has another layer of security in that if you post two consective posts (or a series of posts) you have to visually verify a code to progress.

Today I am changing the setup to where you will have to login to/create a TypeKey account in order to comment. To help facilitate discussion I will then take the moderation queue off. I will still not allow any promotion of the NNFC (various blogs) and will keep to my discussion policy.

I prefer the TypeKey authorization to WordPress’s one, which only works on the particular site you sign up to. So far I think I have only signed up for three WordPress sites (run by friends).
The spammers are quick to ﬁnd you because their robots follow links, and ETC is a well linked site.
Blogger is pretty hopeless, so I have had to approve each message. It slows things down, sadly, but until they create ﬁlters it is probably the only way out for me for the time being.
I don’t mind signing on to TypeKey—it’s fairly easy to do, and it’s nice to be unmoderated!

Hey Jack, I was surprised to see you are still with blogger. You are a serious blogger with all that html and tagging you do, it would seem that blogger makes that very difficult. I love WordPress for it's power (they have a free blog service too) but I switched backt to TypePad because of cost and honestly, I don't need so many options. I spent way way way to much time tinkering with the code and plugins instead of enjoying blogging.

I like TypePad because it is built on MT. MT is also very powerful and clean (code wise.)

Hi Randy: I stuck with Blogger really due to a decision made in 2003 by some colleagues, when we began the Beyond Branding Blog. I don’t believe the others were as popular then. When I started my own blog, the BBB was still running and I didn’t want to go into two different interfaces. One of these days I might switch, but I lack the computer expertise to implement either TypePad or WordPress alone.
I see some great blogs on Moveable Type, so I would deﬁnitely vouch for it as a visitor of those blogs.
