Write A Book? Me?

Peacock

Before coming into these two weeks of vacation I felt the urge to meditate on writing a book.  Last night and today I was praying about that and a new friend (Hi Cheryl) asked, via email, if I had ever considered writing a book.  She had no idea that I was already thinking along those lines.

How weird is that timing from someone I literally just met online?

I actually have made an appearance in a few books.   One of which is The Good Life (link in the right sidebar).  Plus, I helped Alan (along with others on the Exodus management team) to write a book due out this September on the issue of homosexuality.  More details as they become available.  However, I have always felt there are other books to write.  Tonight I was praying about a writing direction and I was searching through my journal software and found the following.  It is a post I wrote but never actually blogged (at least I don't remember ever hitting the publish button.)

Now be warned, I am about to get all third person mystical on you… hang on :)

From my journal dated December 12, 2004

Connecting time isn't all there is

Sometimes time inhabits itself

Other times it transcends into Supernature

He is omnipresent to our linear view

When the Veiltraveler was in kindergarten he was
blessed to go to a private school.  This blond tow head that would
gradually turn a rich brunette developed some of his very first
memories at this school.  The Veiltraveler learned how to count to ten
in Spanish there.  He also learned that other children don't
necessarily agree with all the things he wanted to do.  However, when
it came to play time his favorite activity was to run and grab the bag
of clear plastic cubes.  They were solid, big enough to not swallow but
small enough to easily move around.  There were 50 to a hundred of
them.  Often he sat at the arts table alone but not lonely.  The child
would build little houses, walls and swirling patterns.  Then once a
creation had taken place, he would just stare at the final work.  The
child Veiltraveler was fascinated with how the light would pass through
the clear cubes.  As the other children pushed, tugged, giggled and ran
around, the Veiltraveler would join them from time to time.  But he
always returned to create and wonder.

The only thing that could distract the child Veiltraveler were the
peacocks at the school.  There were several on campus.  Again the light
passing through the beautiful feathers would captivate the young ones
mind.  One peacock made a nest near one of the windows.  The mother
peacock could not see inside but if you followed the teachers warning,
which the Veiltraveler did (most of the time) and didn't tap the
window, you could watch the bird protect her newly laid eggs.

Sunlight breaks through the clouds and brings warmth to the bird who
spreads her plumage ever so slightly.  The sun lights up the blonde
hair of the child watching through the window, a transparent
seperation.  The Wonderful One whispers, "the little one will return to
creativity and bring others with him."

At thirty-two the Veiltraveler had met his Wonderful and had been
walking with Him for a while.  he walked with the One who loved him
through the rough time.  The time when he almost died.  When all wonder
had been replaced with despair and clinging. The Lord had been wooing
the Veiltraveler regardless of circumstance his whole life and
especially for the past seven years that he had been Awake.  The
following conversation happened in various forms many times over  those
seven years:

Wonderful: Would you marry Me?

Veiltraveler: Lord, that is too weird, that can't be You.

Wonderful: It is Me

Veiltraveler: OK, in all humility … can you prove that
*YOU* are asking *ME* to live my life only devoted to you  beyond a
shadow of a doubt?  You are asking me to leave behind the dream of a
wife and children.  Plus, how do I explain this to others, it's just
weird.

The Wonderful One smiles

At thirty-two the Lord brought Veiltraveler across the country to
California and back to a small chapel where five years earlier He had
commissioned the Veiltraveler to carry the *heart* of ministry.  He
brought two other brothers from the east coast there as well.  All
three had been led of the Lord to meditate on celibacy and were
thrilled that their Wonderful had been saying the same thing to all
three.  Exactly the same things on an intimate soul level.  With
details that only three people Hearing the same Person could know.
However, the two witnesses knew that the message was for the
Veiltraveler.

Witness one:  You have been set apart!

Witness two:  You are alone but not lonely.

Witness one:  He is asking you to choose to marry Him.

Witness two:  All of the energy you would put into a wife and children will be invested into the kingdom.

Witness one:  The Lord Himself will be your completion NOW, for all eternity.

Witness two:  But He is honorable and will bless your decision to
pursue marriage and family here or pursue the eternal Marriage of the
Lamb now.  Both are good and He will guide you either way.

Veiltraveler:  I choose Him

The three fell at the feet of the One they served.  The Veiltraveler
chose celibacy and saw many things.  Many beautiful and wonderful
things.  The Lord consumed him with a burning fire and wrapped him up.
This 32 year old man was transfixed with wonder as the Lord presented a
gift.  In his mind's eye he beheld a peacock made of soft jade and
opals.

Light enters the chapel and Whispers "The created is restored to the
Creator and I choose whom I choose.  In return, you've chosen Me, a
different Way.  You will grieve  the loss of your dreams but will not
be disappointed living in My love."

The Veiltraveler
didn't remember the small child he used to be staring through a window
when both he and his fascination were illumined.  He didn't See that
God was endeared to him.  The Lord remembered His Beloved and his whole
life from beginning to end in that moment.

Four years later, the Lord brings another witness who says "The
oddest thing happened, I had a dream of you drawing with both hands.
Both were going and they both were creating."  The Veiltraveler doesn't
believe in weird things happening randomly … well not anymore.  Just
the day before his Wonderful had reminded him of how all his life
people at various times told the Veiltraveler he had been given "piano
playing" hands.  You have to use both to create a beautiful song.

Wonderful: I gave you piano fingers to help you draw… to sing.  To create.

Veiltraveler the beloved: Lord, I don't know how to play
the piano and would go crazy if I tried to learn.  Plus, I only draw
with one hand…did you make the other one just to match?

Wonderful: Yes but that's not all.

Veiltraveler: I don't get it.

Wonderful:  You will.

After discovering, no rediscovering his passion for creating, The
Veiltraveler goes to the art supply store and on the side of the
building is a huge painting of a peacock.  He stops and stares
transfixed.  The paint is outdoor paint on wood.  It's been outside
hanging on the wall since 1995.  That was the same year that the
Veiltraveler received his commission to ministry.  His first visit to
the chapel in California.  As he grabs his camera phone to take a
picture.  The Son peeks through the clouds and illumines the two
creations and smiles on both.  The man doesn't remember the bejeweled
peacock of promise or the young one staring through the window at his
first witness of God's artistry in nature.  He doesn't remember, right
off the bat, but he feels the Lord eyes lifting to see him.

Wonderful: I love you, you know

Veiltraveler: I know …  I want to know more

Wonderful: I was there when your creativity started manifesting and
I was happy.  I was there when your creativity was stolen and I was
angry with the destroyer.  I was there when your creativity came home
and I am here now to make sure it flourishes, takes flight, sings,
dances and soars.  I want you to know my Artistry and convey that to
others.  You will find others who See along the same lines.  Work with
them to bring the lost ones closer.  You are an artist and a warrior.

Veiltraveler:  Yes Lord

Wonderful: I am, I was, I will be.  All time is now to Me.

Veiltraveler:  ::: sits in reverent silence :::

Wonderful: I Am peacocktail

Veiltraveler:  You are.

The Lord is my completion.  Through Christ, communion is my earthly
and eternal union.  Under His headship we create.  This is my family.
My hair may have changed color, the corners of my eyes have a few wrinkles.  I might
have just very recently rediscovered artistic creativity but my God
never forgets His beloved.  Maybe He is whispering your name too.

Sometimes drawing is with pens and paper

It takes both hands to type a story

The artist's fingers curved over a different kind of keyboard can bring about a song that no piano created.

A song like the one you just read.

I don't need to continue to pray for a writing direction.  It may not be obvious to you but it is crystal clear to me.  From my very own prayer journal the answer has been waiting on me.  Even if the resulting book is never read by another person other than my Wonderful, it is a song I have to sing.

It is crystal clear to me as well… as I read, I could hear the calling…
If Your “little” prayer journal touched me this much (and it did), I can’t wait to see what God will do with what you will write.

When you’re finished, I’d love to read your book Randy. What a blessing it is to me to see someone so fully embracing the life God has planned for them, even when it means giving up their own dreams (for better ones, of course).

Sounds like a plan to me!
I’m going to write a book someday myself. I already have a topic and a list of all the chapters that I believe the Lord gave me. In Your timing, Lord!

A lot in this to enjoy, Randy. And I am. Enjoying, that is. Thanks for sharing it after all. I’ll be thinking of you and your two-handed “drawing” now, anytime I see a peacock. Fun thought. :)

That's ok. Yes it is still a goal … at some point. I have written a LOT for that realm but I just got back from sabbatical and prayed for the Lord to make it abundantly clear that He is blessing my blogging and artwork. The book will come when it is ready but since I prayed for the Lord to reveal what he is blessing… my blog traffic went through the roof and my artwork is getting exposure I haven't even asked for. It's really cool.

Thank you for the compliment on my blog. I doing it and have lately trying to really improve it.
