Thompson And Huckabee: Two Good Men but Only One Can be President

I am so tired of politics and Washington DC. It’s kind of like every time I hear of OJ Simpson, I immediately give an exasperated sigh and think, “…what now?… and do I really care?” Well, when it comes to OJ… no. No I really really don’t care. I don’t. But determining the next leader of the United States… I do care, very much.

A friend of mine went to go work with the Thompson campaign. She has an important role within that campaign. I was leaning toward Thompson before signing up for Huckabee. I eventually chose Huckabee because the man is an unapologetic Christian. Plus, he is a great campaigner and he can lead with Executive branch (state level) experience. As I am typing this, an email just arrived saying that Huckabee is giving Romney a huge run for his money in Iowa. The email claims he is within 2 points of Romney. I am very happy about that. After meeting Romney very briefly in Boston I thought he was a kind and gracious man but I don’t want him to be President. That’s all I will say about that for now.

Back to the point …

Today I had a phone meeting with my friend in the Thompson campaign. I was on there with her for my own benefit. I didn’t and can’t represent anyone but myself when it comes to supporting a campaign (I work for a non-profit that doesn’t get into that) so I thought it was very considerate of her to take the time to talk with citizen me about Thompson’s campaign.

My friend is a solid Christian. I have known her for a little over three years. She has a vibrant walk with the Lord and great wisdom gleaned from experiences she has had in her life. She is an amazing person and I respect her and view her as a modern day “Deborah.” We talked about the main issues and the main differences between the two candidates. We also talked about how great both men really are. They both are really good and decent men of faith. They just have completely different personalities :). Thompson is a stoic while Huckabee is a cheerleader…but both are thinkers and leaders.

I wish they would run on the same ticket.

I am not a pundit and I have zero desire to break down all the issues and the arguments of one over the other even though I am fully informed of them. And of course I believe that there are issues Huckabee is better about and others that Thompson is better about. I know which one fits the bill of what “I” want but my challenge is in which one is the *best* for the country? I am still carrying Huckabee but today’s conversation has gotten me back into praying about it.

On a sidenote: my friend today gave incredible insight into Thompson and the way the man operates. It was actually quite a moving conversation.

I am not changing my mind as of yet but I am deeply challenged. I also need to read the books Melinda so graciously sent to me.
