Fitness Friday #3

This week of exercise has been great.  I have been able to slightly increase my weights and cardio time.  I feel a little better in my clothes.  My metabolism is a lot better, I feel better over all and even my friend who said I was a fatty said I looked like I had lost some weight.  It’s been very good to get back in the exercise swing.

Things were going so well I knew that when I weighed in I had to of at least lost 3 or 4  pounds.  Maybe even five.

One single pound.  I could have picked up that stupid scale and thrown it into the spa thing.  After I calmed down (it only took a few seconds)  I realized that scales were simply pawns of satan and I have permission to hate them until I actually lose some significant weight.

Ok, that was a little bit of jest.  While it was not fun to only see one actual pound knocked off the total … I feel, physically a lot better.  I really do.  Honestly, that is more important because I know that I will get to a healthy weight at some point If I just keep pressing through.

Like most things, I have to learn to find joy in the journey … the end results will take care of themselves in whatever timing that means for me.  If I keep doing better and right things good results (whatever that may mean for my body) are inevitable.

That works.

I’ve been working out, too, and not losing weight. Argh. Frustrating at first. But I know in time it will come. And even if it doesn’t, my heart needs it. But it is frustrating to feel like you’ve worked your heiny off, only to find that your heiny is just as big as ever! LOL…

Well, and you know, muscle weighs more than fat! :) Maybe you lost the fat, and gained lots of muscle!! :)

Well, that is one way to look at it. It’s just more muscle … yeah … that’s the ticket :).

I mean, I know it isn’t just in my head. My clothes do fit a little better and I definitely feel a lot better. The body … such a mystery and yet so very basic.
:) Cool Eva. I will pray for you and if you would pray for me … that’d be fantastic.

  3. And, when you start working out, you gain muscle mass which weighs more than fat. You have probably lost a lot of weight in the ways you want and gained weight in the muscle department. Yeah!!!!!!

    Sure thing!!

  5. I know that had to be disappointing with only 1 pound in your first few weeks. But, as you know, the scales don't tell the whole story. You are looking and feeling better! The pounds will reflect the new you in time. Great job in being consistent in working out. High five!, low five!, side five! :-)

  6. Well, I have lost four total in the past few weeks…just one in the past week.

    :)

    Thanks for the encouragement.

You’re doing great, Randy!! And seriously, it is the muscle that causes the weight gain.

Beginning last October, my life got extremely stressful and this continued all the way through the beginning of the year. Before then, I had been exercising a few times per week. During my semi-depression, I stopped doing that, AND I stopped eating because I was a semi-depressed. I lost about 15 lbs, unintentionally.

So about a month ago I started back exercising regularly again. I was anxious to start back building some muscle tone because losing all that weight without exercise months ago made me appear a little flabby. After the first week and a half of exercise EVERYDAY, drinking lots of water and eating healthy foods, I GAINED 2 lbs!! During my seething rage, it was explained to me that during the process of building muscles in the beginning the muscles hold a lot of water. After another week of exercising the same way, I had lost about 3 1/2 lbs!!

Now I’m back down to the weight I was after losing so much, but I have more muscle than fat at this point so it makes sense to me. Keep up the great work, Randy!

Thanks Tami. I understand what you are saying. That’s one of the reasons I haven’t been killing my abs until I lose more body fat.

Plus, I am a big guy in general. My ideal weight is going to be heavier than average for men my height because I am truly big boned/broad shouldered. I have no desire to be Mr. Olympia but I could. I also have been doing more strength training this time around so what you say is even more true.

Thank you for the encouragement. Sorry to hear about your stress but it seem you are back on track.
