Fayola Shakes is a freelance writer and professional daydreamer living in South Florida. An Ohio native, she decided to become writer after attending a high school journalism workshop. After two-and-a-half years of college, she ran away from home in search of real life experience, which meant, naturally, teaching English in a southern Mexican town whose population was the quarter the size of the Cleveland.
Fayola moved to Mexico City in 1997 where she wrote about arts and entertainment for an English-language daily. She returned to the States in 2000 and after a brief stint in social service, she returned to journalism full-time, writing for the community news and entertainment sections of a South Florida daily.
A pop culture and news junkie, Fayola currently she works in television production and spends too much time on the Interwebs. She also blogs here.
