Don’t Let Today Be Just Another Day - Good Friday 2008

Today is a day that Christians meditate on the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ who died for our sins.
Every year since becoming a Christian this bittersweet day can really be overwhelming. On the one hand it is very bitter as I contemplate how horribly the Lord was abused, humiliated and murdered. I meditate on how that event transcends time and becomes my own.
The Crucifixion combines the eternal Spiritual with the natural now. The accusers, the torturers are my own accusations and transgressions against God. Jesus is God lovingly and willfully taking it from me … from us. That Cross (death in the natural and separation from God forever) was supposed to be where I ended up but Jesus went there instead because “…forgive them, they know not what they do.”
And because I love Him it breaks my heart and even more love is born as I realize this Holy event not only pays my debt to God, but that He paid it for me. It is tempting to immediately write about the Resurrection part of Easter weekend but I want to stay on the part of He, out of love for me, paid my debt to God.
I try to make sure that I keep Good Friday meditations separate. I know that Sunday is the Resurrection and many lump the whole weekend in as Easter. There is nothing wrong with that because it really is a progression of one Event … Salvation of the World … Atonement. When I say I keep it “separate” is because the meditation of the Crucifixion is the most humbling meditation I believe a soul can have. The longer I spend weeping at the foot of the Cross, the deeper the Worshipful Joy of falling at the feet of the Risen Christ.
If you are a Christian, I pray you, along with me, will inquire of the Spirit to find an even deeper understanding of the Crucifixion for our lives. If you are not a Christian I pray that you will meditate, research and inquire about Good Friday and the Resurrection. I will even encourage you to pray to Christ for Him to reveal Himself to you in a way that you will know that is Him. He is waiting on your call :).
A bunch of Christians are going to be really out there, especially today, with flowery words, strong exhortations or dramatic meditations ::: sheepish look
and grin ::: but if all those things don’t encourage us all to a personal and deeper relationship with Christ. Today is just another day.
Don’t let today be just another day …
