Quilts

Made by my Great Grandmother.  My Mom gave me these two plus another one today. Cool.

Cool. What year are they from?

    • Randy says:

The year before the T-Rex was listed as an endangered species.

I don’t know. My Great Grandmother made a LOT of these

LOL…most of the fabrics look like they’re depression era (with a few exeptions). The green w/ flowers in white ovals from the bottom quilt definitely looks like it’s ca. 1930’s. And the top quilt was obviously hand sewn. I can’t tell on the bottom whether it was hand or machine sewn. Anyway, I’d just like to know if they were pieced and sewn in the thirties, or if the fabric is older and they were sewn in the fourties or fifties, or later. My mom has depression era fabric that has been handed down to her, so that is a possibility. If they are depression era sewn that’s seriously cool, because depression era fabrics are the most popular among vintage quilters. You have *real* depression era quilts, not quilts made from reproduced fabrics.

Aww, that’s great. I value quilts and they aren’t cheap when you go to buy an authentic one. Family heirlooms are, well, priceless. That is very special that you have in your possession quilts made by the loving hands of your Great Grandmother. Wow…

Yes it is really cool. Plus, these were made in rural Tennessee so while some of the fabric might have been bought for the quilt… most of the material and pieces are from worn out clothes from my Great Aunts and Uncle, Great Granny herself, my Mom and her sisters. Mom, a long time ago… took out one of the quilts she has and told me which fabric pieces had once belonged to who in our family.

      It’s very cool.

I’ll have to show these to my wife. She’s a quilter, big time. There’s nothing like a room with a quilt in it. Adds warmth and love.

Love quilts. I’ve always hoped to learn to make one before I die.
Seeing these reminds me that I need to get started!
