It’s been a long time since I have written about the Presidential race (at least it seems that way.)
Two leaders were caught saying two things that both, I bet, wish they hadn’t.
Senator Gramm said that we are a nation of “whiners” and Jesse Jackson wanted to castrate Obama for “talking down” to black people of faith.
I think Senator Gramm walked right into a political quagmire and was too dismissive of the economic struggle for many people today. That said, people sure do know how to complain. I crack up watching Obama scoff at Gramm which in effect is proving Gramm’s point. Scoffing is not much different than complaining in my view.
Also, those with nothing but a pure consumer mindset toward life or personally insecure are pretty good at not ever being satisfied … and communicating that dissatisfaction. It’s also not limited to Americans … it’s a human thing. It’s should not define us but I don’t know a single human that doesn’t struggle with being critical at some point on some level.
… and then you get into the deep waters of when is complaining the right thing to do? But that’s for another post OR the comments
(go for it.)
Jackson was just being flippant and stupid. And before we get all uppity about it … admit it … we have all said some pretty mean things before. The difference is we said it on the phone, at lunch, over drinks … you know that raucous time over Kool-aid in the third grade. Those little meanies!
While it doesn’t really ever occur to me to violently attack someone, we have all done something on the same level of flippant anger verbally or in our hearts. The only difference is that it was not in front of Fox News.
All of this reminds me of James 1:19
“So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;”
So, what do you think about all this?
