Marriage Amendment 2 Gains Important Support in Florida - Yes2Marriage.org

Two really good developments. First one below and the second one after the jump.yeson2pic.jpg

I got this via email Wednesday.

FLORIDA’S MAJOR LATINO FAITH COMMUNITY LEADERS ANNOUNCE SUPPORT OF AMENDMENT 2

MIAMI- -Florida’s Latino faith community leaders, Diocese of Miami Auxiliary Bishop Felipe J. Esteves, El Rey Jesus Church Pastor Guillermo Maldonado, Riverside Baptist Church Pastor Otto Fernandez and other Latino ministers joined millions of Floridians in their support of Amendment 2 (The Florida Marriage Protection Amendment) when they announced that marriage is, has always been and should remain the union of one man and one woman as husband and wife today at the Miami-Dade Courthouse in Miami on Monday September 30, 2008.

The major Latino faith community leaders joined other faith community leaders and thousands of churches across Florida who support the common sense of having people and not judges define marriage in Florida. More than 426 Florida leaders have endorsed the Yes2Marriage.org campaign effort in support of Amendment 2 and will vote “Yes on 2” on Nov. 4. The leaders endorsing the marriage amendment include businessmen, pastors, community leaders, bishops and legislators.

And then, Mr. DeVos, owner of the Orlando Magic (they play softball or something … Tiger Woods is the best goalie they got), makes a very large contribution.

Inside the Amway Arena, a voice over the public-address system announced that the next two people to buy upper-bowl tickets to the Orlando Magic would get a basketball autographed by Hedo Turkoglu.

Meanwhile, outside the facility, protesters chanted, “The billionaire’s a bonehead. The billionaire’s a bonehead.”

Professional sports and political street theater intersected Sunday as opponents of a proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution vented their wrath on Magic owner Rich DeVos on the day season-ticket holders were selecting their seats.

The protesters were calling attention to DeVos’ contribution of $100,000 to Florida4Marriage, a group that supports Amendment 2, which would add the existing ban on gay marriage to the state constitution. Opponents say the measure could also deny domestic-partnership benefits for unmarried couples — gay and straight.

The “billionaire is a bonehead? … Really? ::: laugh ::: Man, modern day protests really need a lot of help … but … I am not going to offer any advice to “bonehead” blasters.

Both of these developments are very important and energizing to the Yes2Marriage campaign.
