Rocker Chick K Got My Hair Did

November 26, 2008 · 16 comments

Today I went and got my hair cut by Rocker Chick K. I started going to her when she was first starting out as the hair designer extraordinaire of North Orlando. She wasn't called an intern but it was something like that. I can't remember what her exact title was but it was a cheap(er) haircut and she was great at it.

I call her Rocker Chick K because she is a Rocker Chick with the first initial of K. I have been going to see her once a month for almost two years now. She's doesn't do the discount haircut thing anymore. She's gone pro. I can't believe I pay as much as I do now but … she does a great job and we talk the *entire* time. We talk about her Chef Boyfriend, how Christina Aguilarica…Christina Oregano … Arugula… HER … shouldn't have gone platinum blond and reverting to her previous vixen-esque persona. We talked about the Twilight phenom and our theories of why Vampires are the monsters of choice.

I think it is because they represent our carnal appetites at their most veracious.

We also talked about the similarities between Coldplay and U2. She went to the Coldplay concert here a few weeks ago and at one point in the concert they came out to a smaller stage only 12 feet away from her. I was very jealous but happy for her.

Then P!nk came on the radio and we talked about how her latest song was her typical yelling rebel type of thing but the video actually showed some humility on her part. Of course I could have done without the digitized nude red carpet Michael Jackson thriller dance scene … but hey … I'm a prude.

Then after making me look spectacularly handsome, Rocker Chick K remembered to not put the stinky paste stuff in my hair … it gives me migraines.

Then as I was leaving, Rocker Chick K, the Salon owner and I made light of Madonna's many looks. By the way, Madonna's decision to hang herself from an electronic disco ball cross … disgusting and ridiculous. But then … are we surprised that Madonna would do something disgusting and ridiculous?

We talk a lot of music when I go get my hair cut. This time around we spent more time on Pop Princesses than normal but that's what came on the radio this time.

I really like my community as a whole but this one consistent appointment has become a fun time for me. What part(s) of your community do you enjoy?

Well, every Wednesday night I require a fast but well proteined dinner in order to be on the ball for the intensity of my Wednesday night gig. There is a Subway restaurant on my trail between gigs and I stop there for a tuna sandwich. A lovely older Asian couple own the Subway. I get such a warm greeting every week when I come in. I don't have to tell them how I like my sandwich. They begin preparing it when I walk in the door. And, they take an interest in my day while preparing my sandwich. AND, their restaurant is BY FAR the cleanest Subway I have ever seen. I really enjoy them and look forward to that part of my week.

Randy and Rocker Chic K ~ I can totally hear your conversation… lovin' that you're so real with people.

I'll need to think about that 'community' thing… but I'm loving some new neighbors. “Chip” loves fellowship (and is going to love Jesus, too…). Oh, and a soon-to-be Army Chaplain is in my development, too.

Nothing regular going on with either, but we're working on it.

Blessings!

Love this! My hairdresser and I talk about everything from television preachers to renegade hair color mistakes which turned a long-time client smurf blue! It is a top o' the list destination for me.

Community is undergoing some change of late. Right now, I am getting used to having neighbors who are neighborly. We talk about food and family and yards and they always ask how my husband and I are doing….and about Mom. My nextdoor neighbor, Dow, hollered across the yard and hubby and me about PDA when we hugged!

Smurf blue?! … wow.

Awwwww….that's cute about your neighbors. How is your community changing? New development? Wal Mart taking over small town America?

Wiccans invade the Southern Baptist Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday nights? I can go on all day with this you know …

I have an appointment every Saturday at Granny's Kitchen in town. When I speak of town, I'm referring to my 1500 population hometown. This is a time for me to just chill by myself and enjoy granny's company. I'm greeted with a big hug and a hello sweetie, are you having your usual. My usual consist of 2 scrabbled eggs, home fried potatoes with onions, biscuit with gravy, a side of honey, and coffee. yum… That sounds good this morning. For a long time I left in my heart that this was a ministry for me. One morning I went in a little discouraged and when she saw me, she ran over to give me a hug and that's when it hit me. The Lord has place my Saturday mornings to be a blessing to me as well. He knows all. :)

Sounds very warm and comforting. You should blog about your small town, the good, bad, ugly, wonderful. People love small town stories.

I do like to engage folks in conversation when face to face. She and I do talk about other more serious issues but this time around … alllll silly stuff.

Oh… and it is your homework assignment to report back on how you interact with your community on a regular basis (if I can be so bold to assign homework.) Everyone does it at some level.

Even you Northeastern big city folk.
