Cross Cultural Crash-A-Rama Outreach Opportunity … CARPOCALYPSE!
To clear up any potential confusion right off the bat, the following is satire even though I am going to go to this thing tonight … and excited about attending something completely out of my realm of experience.
***
In my quest to truly understand the modern contexts of the human experience among various people groups here in these United States, I have agreed to attend this:
I hope I don’t die.
But seriously, my immediate question is imperative … what does one wear to this type of … gathering/sporting event? If you say, “oh Randy, just wear a tube top, daisy dukes and flip flops!” I will pray that Jesus forgives you for that in advance. Don’t be so closed minded. I want to fit in but I would never wear daisy dukes and tube tops just don’t work with cargo shorts. Flip flops rawk so maybe that is some common ground we could build upon.
Is there a difference between a Redneck and a Good ‘Ol Boy?
Are these “redneck good ol’ boys” simply the bitter product of unfair stereotypes and stigmatization of the southern male? Is driving huge machinery violently up ramps and into other huge machinery just these brave misunderstood men’s way of saying … do you love me? … do you value me?
Will I be accepted if my Mountain Dew is “diet?”… if the only country song I like is by Carrie Underwood doing a cover of “Home Sweet Home” by Guns & Roses? Gosh, I don’t even own a Metallica t-shirt.
::: deeply pondering :::
And … what does it say about me that I would LOVE to be driving one of those 15 school buses at 90mph in a figure eight crashing into each other leaving school bus carnage eeevvvverrrryyywhere?
If I survive … I can guarantee that there is going to be pictures and video. You know so we can “learn” from this experience to add to our communal knowledge and understanding. I also hope this will help increase compassion and tolerance for this often maligned and misunderstood people group.

ok here is my Crash-a-Rama scavenger-hunt picture list (Disclaimer: I write this with moral authority as I come from a long line of white trash and have participated in similar events):
1. Woman wearing a bandana kerchief-style halter top with a pair of wood-grain Candies.
2. A middle-age woman wearing a muu-muu and eating pork rinds dipped in Miracle Whip.
3. Kissing cousins
4. Five mullets standing in a row in the Corn Dog line.
5. A “post-gay” man eating a corn dog, bear claw, chased with a Bud Light.
6. A picture of you having survived this ordeal.
If you successfully bring back a picture for each of these, I will buy you a $30 card to Starbucks. No joke.
It sounds like fun! I attended a similar event in honor of a friend, who did well in his race. The gathering is likely to be quite festive and relaxed. My recommendation is to simply sit back and simply enjoy the enthusiastic people and machinery!

loved the clear video of the monster truck and the school bus derby rocked! It seemed quite loud but worth the experience. Love the new iphone 3GS, would love to join in with all the fun but I don’t get AT&T service here.
Liked the "awesome", and "cool" comments, kids are great!

Oh my word that’s crazy. My neck is sore just watching it.

My voice is still sore yelling through the whole thing.

::: rolleyes and laughing out loud :::
1.) Can do … any extra credit if I get a group of women dressed this way or more than one picture of several different women?
2.) Wow… will keep an eye out.
3.) Not sure about that one. I don’t know how culturally sensitive it would be of me to walk up to a couple making out, tapping the dude on the shoulder and saying, “Are y’all cousins?”
4.) Easy
5.) Another easy one ONLY if you don’t tell my trainer and I am a man on a post-gay journey
. But right about now I am wishing I had a post-gay t-shirt.
6.) Lord willing
ok I want to make this work
1. Yes, I’ll give you extra credit
2. ok skip the food requirement and just show me the muu muu
3. Good point. How about a couple just hanging all over each other in that “Billy Bob and Ellen Sue go to the State Fair” kind of way?
4. Good
5. Show me the money.
6. I have full confidence in you.
It’s a deal. I will print this out and do my best!
You are right. It was very festive and relaxed. I had a great time. It’s good to see you Sonia.
