TakeOff, RoundAbout and Dog Days of Summer – New Art – Moleskin Book

by Randy Thomas on July 25, 2009 · 0 comments

This post has the first three drawings made in my moleskin art journal.  I am using it to test out stuff (i.e. coloring and experimenting with new elements.)

Take off!

Take off!

TakeOff (above) is a little older.  I finished it on the plane from London.  But the next two are new.  First off … RoundAbout:

Not sure about why I called it RoundAbout but it’s what came to mind immediately after finishing it.  Maybe the light is going a “roundabout” way of dismantling the dark.  Nex is Dog Days of Summer:

Round-about

Round-about

This one was quick.  I finished this one while watching an episode of LA Ink.  I think the title “Dog Days of Summer” is pretty obvious.  It’s hot out there y’all.

I really love Dog Days of Summer. :-) It is amazing how the mind and hand can work together to create something that asks us to look closer at the same time as we have to step back to see the full picture. Beautiful art, Randy.

I'm hearing the title 'RoundAbout' in a thick Scottish accent. They are really fun and lovely to look at, Randy. It's hot here too. I can't imagine how hot it must be for you.

Thanks Rebecca. Very cool. I am always intrigued when people talk about being drawn in but also wanting to step back. I appreciate your encouragement.

See this is your time to pick on me. You know how I bitterly complain about how cold 73 degrees is … well this is your turn to bitterly complain about how hot 73 degrees is ( or celsius whatevers are):) Thanks for the encouragement and I like the Scottish accent part.

I read this post this morning and have had “Roundabout” by Yes stuck in my head all day. : PThese are great, Randy! Each one is so unique. But I have to admit I really like TakeOff. I'm not very educated in Art, so I'll just say it's really neat and that the color combination of blue and green is one of my favorites. : )

My car thermometer hit 97 Fahrenheit today. But mostly it was 88. What's hot for you? There is next to no humidity here. I think 97 would feel *very* different in your neck of the woods.

If I already posted this, I'm sorry. I'm still getting used to this! I like TakeOff. I like the blue and green but also the negative white space and the lines.

I don't want to be one of those nerds posting the same thing two or more times! :-)

That one in your 17 years post is fab! I love that one! You really should exhibit or something some time. A book, proceeds to thyself, or a charity of one's choice. Prints? They really are beautiful, Randy.
