Road Trippin to Asheville NC

Coming up on North Carolina!

Four states in nine hours and no … I did not eat healthy … at all.

It was so good.

I listened to music and talk radio the whole way. I was also hoping that I would get some more inspiration for my keynote a week from Sunday. It is the closing talk of the conference. I already knew what I wanted to talk about but still working out the framework. I think I got it today. So that was the good news.

I also have a new girlfriend in Nowhere, Georgia. I pulled up to a completely deserted gas station in Nowhere and she was standing at the door and it was obvious she liked my car. She did the whole Egyptian head roll from side to side with pursed lips making her weave bounce.

She ended up a total flirt! She even batted her eyes. I love the South.

Got to Ridgecrest and the rooming situation … horrible. I was/am disappointed. Which is even more disappointing because I have a very good friend who works here. I am not going to go into specifics on the blog but … I have to spend the next three nights in … a bad room.

It’s just bad … like … not good … just bad.

The good news is they are trying to do everything to correct the situation. Hopefully it won’t last long.

It didn’t … all fixed and ready to go :).  Yay Ridgecrest!

Anyway, click here for more pictures from today.

HE-MOTIONS

HE-MOTIONS

Amy K. sent this to me just to send it to me. Thanks Amy.

But I must confess … I have to practice my pensive man-look. Also, the title, “HE-MOTIONS” … it made me laugh … just a little. Get it? He + emotions = HE-MOTIONS ?

::: manly chuckle :::

It’s hard to be pensive while chuckling. I love Christian marketing sometimes.

Not sure when I will be able to listen to the “The Message” from “The Popular Tour” but hopefully it will be soon after the conference is over. I am interested to see what Bishop Jakes has to say.

Thanks again Amy :)

Belated Birthday Present

Belated Birthday Mosaic - Whee!

I came home and found a package at my door. It was from a dear friend in Washington DC. Hi C.! She is very thoughtful.

First picture is happa Randa for getting fun mail.

2nd Picture is hulka Randa opening up the seriously taped box. It said fragile but I was *digging* into the box just to get it open!

3rd picture is verra happa Randa because my “love language” is gifts and I love cards and I love my name written by a pretty lady with a smiley face in the “y”.

4th picture is of grateful Randa for the fancy journal and “flameless” candle.

I love leather bound journals and I can only imagine all the possible self deprecating jokes about the “flameless” candle … but … I will pass on that. :).

Thank you C.! … but instead of me moving to DC, too expensive and the call of God and all … I think you need to move to Orlando … just sayin’.

Not That Rickety

In front of some of my own handiwork. We at Exodus have been moving into our new digs all week. Moving an entire office, with twelve on site staff is not an easy thing. However, Scott has done and is doing a terrific job in coordinating the moving, prepping, painting along with a lot of this and that. The youngin’s haver really worked *very* hard with load after load in the U-Haul and painting.

We have a lot of stuff and a lot to paint.

In our attempts to be good stewards of finances, we are moving everything except the huge furniture ( for the movers ). That saved us a ton of money. We also decided to paint the inside of the building ourselves … also saving a LOT of money.

We like that.

So, we started painting yesterday around 2:30 and I left around 9. Then started again this morning at 8:30 am and I left around 5:30 pm.

Now, I am not that old but there was one point when I was sitting on the stairs with my head in my hands thinking, “Whoever said 40 is the new 30 must be some smart aleck 20 year old.”

Hurts:

  • Ankles (both)
  • Left knee
  • Right shoulder

While I am getting a little rickety, I am not that rickety. I have actually enjoyed most of the hard work. Especially considering it is equivalent to really good workouts. Seriously, from head to toe kind of workout. Good times.

The picture in this post is in front of some of my own handiwork. Of course I doctored the thermostat out of the picture. It makes it purty-er. I did have fun watching all of our team and volunteers bring life to our new home. And lemmee tell you, the new home office needed a makeover :). It was stuck somewhere back in the eighties, and not in the cool way either.

There is a little more to do tomorrow but I won’t be there. I will be on a plane headed to Dallas. I will be there for a total of 24 hours for a meeting with really cool Pastoral group. Please pray for safe travels and wisdom for the meeting.

Downtown Disney 12 29 03

This was one of my early photos taken here in Orlando. I am in the process of restoring over a thousand photos to my flickr account. If you are interested in keeping up with these additions and new photos, feel free to check me out on Flickr. Oh, and the guy in the picture’s arm seems transparent because the camera caught him in mid arm waving. Kind of cool effect.

Hidden Treasures

Rufus (my Mac) has a bugKnow It AllToday I was cleaning out my desk and I found all kinds of stuff. I love being a random thinker (not ADD… just random) because anytime I clean out anything its like a whole new adventure of, “wow! I remember that!”

I like the picture with the “know it all” ribbon. It is funny. My Aunt Judy sends me boxes full of promotional advertising stuff all the time. She goes to a lot of conventions.

That ribbon was my first find today. I mean, I have pretty much “known it al”l since I was able to string two words together. I think those two words were, “MINE, MINE!”

I keep telling you … narcissism is a curse! Especially if you know everything like me.

Then I found a finger puppet of a bumble bee. Another friend of mine, God bless ‘er, gave that to me when I first moved to Florida. She told me that modern engineering cannot figure out how a bumble bee flies. Meaning that aerodynamically and structurally there is allegedly no possible way for that bee to fly … and yet it does. She says that a bumble flies because God wants it too. The moral of the story is that even if you see no way, at all, ever, it’s impossible … that with God all things are possible if it is in His will.

Rufus (my Mac) has a bug

Awww…. Rufus ( my Mac) and Bumble the Bee get along great.

That was very sweet and encouraging of her. But I have to admit that Bumble has been in my desk for six years. I think I took it out once when I was being yelled at on the phone by a very grumpy person. I pretended it was the bee yelling at me. That made the whole ordeal more bearable.

Was that passive aggressive? Immature? … it was totally all that … but it was funny … very funny … and I still had to work through whatever issue it was.

So, while boxing up employee files, drafts of manuals, and bunches of important work documents … I am finding fun things like the above plus a ton of paper clips and four (why do I have four?) staple remover monster things with sharp teeth, pens shaped in various fruit configurations, funny pictures and cards, and coffee mugs. Some folks have given me some strange mugs. I even found a card that sang a Run DMC song to me when opened it up.

Just face it, if you send me something silly…it’s probably going to live with me for quite a while.
