H8 Against Prop 8

Michelle Malkin goes after Obama being silent about the violence and vandalism happening across the country in reaction to the passage of Prop 8 (more after the jump)
Across the country, there are broken souls in need of fixing. They are the opponents of Proposition 8, California’s traditional marriage initiative, which passed 52-48 (the same margin you won by, Lightworker).
Perhaps you would care to weigh in and work your healing magic on the anti-Prop. 8 rabble-rousers who continue to wreak havoc on Mormon churches in several cities and states and blacklisting peaceful voters who supported the ballot measure.
It is getting very ugly out there and no one in the Democratic leadership has stepped up to condemn the insane rage, to borrow a phrase.

The Universe Just Tilted - Elton John and I agree … kinda’

I keep saying that marriage is not a civil right but a socially/legally defined benefit. While I am not sold on civil unions (but considering) … Sir Elton John kind of makes the same arguments I made saying you shouldn’t redefine marriage. His statements also lend to the idea that the better argument might be made in discussing civil benefits.
NEW YORK — Elton John, accompanied by his longtime partner, David Furnish, had some choice words about California’s Proposition 8, the ban on same-sex marriage that passed on Nov. 4.
In December 2005, John and Furnish tied the knot in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England. But, clarified the singer, “We’re not married. Let’s get that right. We have a civil partnership. What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage.”
John and Furnish, and their two cocker spaniels, Marilyn and Arthur, were in town for Tuesday’s annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
“I don’t want to be married. I’m very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership,” John says. “The word ‘marriage,’ I think, puts a lot of people off.
“You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships.”

“Stop It” Therapy for The Masses - A Day Dream

I had this day-dream of showing up in the middle of a Prop 8 protest and using “stop it” therapy … and as only day-dreams can produce … it actually worked. In my day dream I say, “Hey you! Stop knocking crosses out of old ladies hands and stomping on it and pushing her around!” and the offending dudes pick up the cross, stop pushing and yelling and tell the lady they don’t agree with her but apologize for the violent outburst.
She in turn goes home, bakes everyone some nice pumpkin pie and chocolate chip muffins and comes back with a smile and kind words with open ears.
Then, for the second act of this day-dream, I turn toward Saddleback Church and tell the very cute and smartly dressed lesbian couple, “Rick Warren is NOT a Nazi and you know better. Stop it!” They look at each other, blink, look back at me and throw down their swastika sign saying, “Yes, we do know better so we are going to come up with a relevant non-stigmatizing chant right now!”
Then, I magically teleport (as you can do in day-dreams) to yet another Prop 8 rally and turn around and yell at a few guys, “HEY NO RACIST COMMENTS, STOP IT RIGHT NOW and quit acting like angry children and start acting like angry yet mature and responsible adults!” The men stop and go over to profusely apologize to the black guys for calling them horrible names. They all shake hands and continue on their peaceful protesting ways.
And then, we all just get along as I hand out water while wearing my, “I may not be gay … anymore … but I am still fabulous!” t-shirt.
What? … It is *my* day-dream.

California Courts Continue to Be a Catalyst of Social Division

I originally wrote in a comment on this post …
The judges made their erroneous decision against the will of the people and created scenario that caused very high expectations to be broken.
I was pleasantly surprised when a gay blogger makes the exact same observation and expands it very astutely … (emphasis mine, quote and more thoughts after the jump.)

Attacking People Instead of Principles - Far Left Hate Mongering

*** UPDATES and MORE added to bottom of post:***
Here is the one difference I see between the far left and the religious right. As summed up in this picture, the far left attacks people personally … the religious right goes after issues. The banner on the house of a conservative Mormon family says to vote yes on Prop 8. The SUV message attacks the family personally by calling them bigots. This is just one example of what is happening across the state.
Also, there is the example of publicizing donors to Prop 8 to harass them. ( More thoughts after the jump.)
The person who initiated the Daily Kos campaign to look into the lives of Mormon donors is Dante Atkins, an elected delegate to the state Democratic convention who said he’s the vice president of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats.
Atkins said his goal was to “embarrass the opposition by pointing out and publicizing any contributors they may have.” He said focusing on Mormons made sense. “If one religious group is putting close to the majority of the money and the effort into passing this proposition, it is fair to single them out.”
The Mormon church hasn’t taken the same level of interest in Arizona or Florida, which also have constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage.

Joe the Plumber - A Phenom

Joe seems kind of average … except that last name. Whew… that’s a goodin’ (my thoughts after the jump)
(CNN) — A week ago he was a little-known plumber quietly practicing his trade in northwestern Ohio. Now Joe Wurzelbacher is a talking point in the race for the White House.Wurzelbacher, now dubbed “Joe the Plumber,” heard his name invoked in whole or in part more than two dozen times during Wednesday’s presidential debate in Hempstead, New York, first by Sen. John McCain and then by Sen. Barack Obama.
“I was just really surprised that my name was mentioned,” he told reporters after the debate. “I think it helped them get their points across, so I was happy about that.”
Wurzelbacher, 34, unintentionally stepped onto the political scene over the weekend when Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, was campaigning in Holland, Ohio, just west of Toledo. Wurzelbacher was playing football with his son when Obama was campaigning door-to-door in his neighborhood.

Palin vs. Biden - LIVE Blogging the Vice Presidential Debate!
October 2, 2008 by Randy

I am very excited to announce that I, and a few friends, will be live blogging the VP debate! What will happen is that the box you see in this post will go live around 8:45 pm Eastern (maybe earlier…depends). Then our updates will automatically start scrolling through.
The *really* cool part is that you will be able to add your thoughts. It works kind of like a chat box except that I will be moderating everyone coming through the blog. The other panelists (TBA) will be unfiltered. Plus, as always you can leave regular comments on this post. It’s going to be so much fun. If you notice, you can see a little notification box above or in the far right (no pun intended) sidebar. You can set it to remind you later on tonight about this LIVE blog event :). See you then!

Economic Bail Out Blues

WARNING: A full on Cat 3 Randy Rant is about to make blog-fall in 5 …. 4 …. 3 …. 2 ….
The more I learn about the bail out the more I don’t trust Congress to be able to pull off something that is actually in the best interest of the people. I saw Pelosi’s statement on Sunday and while she used the word “bi-partisan” a lot she certainly made it sound like the Republicans wanted a blank check and it was up to the Democrats to protect the people’s interest.
yeah … sounds all to familiar … oh wait … she says that about everything.
