12 Traits of Successful Bloggers

by Randy on June 11, 2008

This is an excellent article:

I was just doing an interview on an Aussie radio station and was asked to name some traits of successful bloggers. My initial reaction was to giggle - because no two successful bloggers are the same - however as I began to answer I realized that there are some common traits among bloggers who gain popularity. Here’s a list, presented in no particular order, of some of the traits of successful bloggers that I observe

[From 12 Traits of Successful Bloggers]

Supersimbo asks

What traits do you have…………?

The article mentions 1) Creative & Playful, 2) Innovative 3) Connectors 4) Community Enablers 5) Information Mavens 6) Communicators 7) Interest 8) Entrepreneurs 9) Originality 10) Perseverance 11) Focus and 12) Curiosity

oh… I don’t know. I don’t think I really want to say what traits I think I have. That’s up to the reader. I can say that this is a great list to work toward. I think anyone who blogs or is thinking about blogging should read the above article.

The Will to Blog

by Randy on May 28, 2008

Amazing, and revealing, article by Emily Gould titled Exposed was featured in the New York Times Magazine.

Amy T. sent this to me saying that she thought I would enjoy the article and I did very much. Thank you Amy!

There is so much I want to quote from this article. There are many launching points from which to discuss. Of course the circumstances of Emily’s online blogging life are very different from my own but there are a lot of the blogging dynamics I have no doubt that many a blogger can relate to ( to some degree.)

Emily’s concluding paragraph reads:

I understand that by writing here about how I revealed my intimate life online, I’ve now revealed even more about what happened during the period when I was most exposed. Well, I’m an oversharer — it’s not like I’m entirely reformed. But lately, online, I’ve found myself doing something unexpected: keeping the personal details of my current life to myself. This doesn’t make me feel stifled so much as it makes me feel protected, as if my thoughts might actually be worth honing rather than spewing. But I still have Emily Magazine as a place to spew when I need to. It will never again be the friendly place that it was in 2004 — there are plenty of negative comments now, and I don’t delete them. I still think about closing the door to my online life and locking them out, but then I think of everything else I’d be locking out, and I leave it open.

Upgraded to Wordpress 2.5

by Randy on March 29, 2008

Blog friends, if everything went well you shouldn’t notice anything except that now you can register at this blog if you want to (right now you don’t have to.

Guest bloggers….when you log in… the whole thing has changed (for the better) I think you will find that it isn’t too far off from the interface that was there before. Now it is just more intuitive and “cleaner.”

For those interested… here is what I am talking about.

Focus On Exodus

by Randy on March 17, 2008

Former Exodus President Featured on Focus on the Family Broadcast
Orlando, FL- Tune in today and tomorrow to hear former Exodus International President Joe Dallas deliver a powerful message on how Christians should respond to the issue of homosexuality and to gay identified men and women.Alan Chambers’ new book God’s Grace & the Homosexual Next Door is a featured resource following this broadcast.

Listen to “How Should We Respond to Homosexuality?”

Order God’s Grace & the Homosexual Next Door

I read somewhere that Wayne Besen?  Or was it Mike Airhart? … they are beginning to act like one and the same destructive person, said that Focus on the Family had taken over Exodus.  Well, I tell ya’, that’s just crazy talk.  From the appearance of today’s www.family.org it would seem the reverse is true.   Joe Dallas is on the show, Alan’s book is the featured product and my interview on transgender issues in public schools is one of the line up of featured articles. (specifically on “Social Issues.”)

And they are featuring Love Won Out as well.

I love that Focus supports the work of Exodus.  Everyone I have met at Focus is a great person, I love that crew.  They are some of the most loving, and fun, people I have ever met.

While Focus doesn’t “own” Exodus, where our interests do line up, we make a great team.  I am glad to help them whenever possible.

Reigning It In

by Randy on February 23, 2008

Ok… so the web apps are out of control but check this out …

This web app is totally worth it just for me to keep up with myself! I also like it because it turns your Twitter tweets into something that can be commented on.

I am thinking Friendfeed is actually something that will “add” a useful service to the web.

It’s all Patrick Ruffini’s fault.   Right now friend feed is in private beta.  If you would like an invite leave a comment with your email address in the email input field.  It won’t be published publicly so in your comment you only have to put, “invite please.”

I will send you one. :)
