Commentary from FRC after the jump …
Supporters of Proposition 8, the proposed state constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage, said they would file suit today to block a change made by California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown to the language of the measure’s ballot title and summary.
Petitions circulated to qualify the initiative for the ballot said the measure would amend the state Constitution “to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE
Generally, I enjoy the X-Files. I am not cult-ish about it but I think, if you have read my blog more than twice, you know that I like very weird metaphors, odd stories and finding any hint of light in complete darkness.
It’s just how I roll.
This movie was really an episode that went too long. It was like the script was made for television’s 41 minutes (a usual hour show has around 20 minutes of commercials … so I hear.) I am saying that because at one point I was thinking, “this is the longest hour and 40 minutes ever!” Then I thought, “Just think of it as an episode, not comparing it to the last major film.”

I have spent the better part of two hours writing a post about Gay marriage in California. Normally I am all over this issue and full of opinions. Now … it is honestly and probably one of the most difficult “marriage” posts I have written. At least that’s what it feels like. In the rough draft I have hit on the issue of watching two communities I love at war with each other.

Think out loud with me :).
::: ponder :::
A friend forwarded me the poll from Quinnipiac University. The poll itself asked a lot of questions about the state of Florida politics but this was the one concerning the Marriage Amendment.

Apparently so.
An article by AdvanceUSA, in which I interviewed for, was published today. I will lift two quotes as something I think speaks to today’s decision. The first quote does not address the decision directly but I hope it will speak to how I approach these type of public policy issues. The second quote does not specifically analyze the California decision but it does share my views on marriage.

Las Cruces Sun-News:
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—A professional photographer who refused to take pictures of a gay couple’s commitment ceremony because of her religious beliefs violated New Mexico discrimination law, a human rights panel ruled.Vanessa Willock filed a complaint with the New Mexico Human Rights Commission in 2006, contending that Albuquerque photographer Elaine Huguenin told her she photographed only traditional marriages. Huguenin and her husband, Jon, own Elane Photography.
The commission’s one-page ruling Wednesday said Elane Photography violated the state Human Rights Act by discriminating against Willock on the basis of sexual orientation, and should pay $6,637 for Willock’s attorney’s fees and costs.
Willock, through her attorney, said in an e-mail that she was pleased by the finding.
