July 2, 2009

Pastor Bob is one of four mentors I have had during my Christian walk.  When I lived in Texas I went to his wonderful church. Now that he is on the Exodus board I get to see him more often so that is verra nice. To the point:
What Church Leaders Should Know About [...]

Barna Study on Gay and Heterosexual Christians

June 30, 2009
Thumbnail image for Barna Study on Gay and Heterosexual Christians

I was going to skip this because there is a lot to this article and I am not a statistician. I am also losing more and more confidence that dividing people into the two all or nothing categories of “gay” and “straight” is actually accurate.  I think that is a false starting point (and that [...]

Are Gay Christians Really Saved?

June 25, 2009
Thumbnail image for Are Gay Christians Really Saved?

Of course all the following is submitted as my own hopefully humble opinion.
“Can a gay Christian be really saved?” is like someone asking you, “Is so and so REALLY saved? Is Randy Thomas REALLY saved?” They can give you there opinion but in the end it’s between God and I and whether I have truly [...]

Wendy invited me to participate in her “Bridging The Gap” Synchro blog. The following is the purpose of the event:
The purpose of this synchroblog is to share positive stories, ideas, suggestions on how we can bridge the gaps between people on the topic of faith and sexuality. Another way to put it is, “How [...]

Is The Christian Post-Gay Journey Determined by Insecurity, Intimidation or Self-Determined Faith in God? – Ask It Basket

June 17, 2009

Peter, a new commenter, writes:
Randy,
Thank you for your reply.
Okay. There was a lot in there to digest. I come to you because I truly want to understand. Here are my thoughts on this:
(1) Having (now) looked at some ex-gay/post-gay/exodus materials, it seems that almost everyone comes to the Exodus movement because they [...]

Gay Activists Don’t Care, But Do Care, About Impending Hate Crimes Legislation?

June 15, 2009

The Obama administration appears to be trying to do a pivot move on the gay community they really angered this past weekend.
They have attached hate crimes legislation to the tourism bill.  You know because the two (tourism and long standing gay activist policy goals) are so … similar … and such … (yes, I’m being [...]

Obama’s Contradictory Gay Policy Stands Anger Sullivan and Aravosis

June 12, 2009
Thumbnail image for Obama’s Contradictory Gay Policy Stands Anger Sullivan and Aravosis

Apparently Obama will say one thing from the teleprompter to his left:
I will repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, I declare June Gay Pride Month because the gay community deserves full rights and privileges of the straight community.
… And then a very different thing from the teleprompter to his right:
Except marriage should remain between one man [...]

Ask University to Include Love Won Out Perspective

June 8, 2009

This is great:
Take Action: Ask University to Include Love Won Out Perspective
by Jennifer Mesko, editor
The ‘Religion and Homophobia’ panel discussion seems awfully one-sided.
The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Resource Center at Grand Valley State University in western Michigan is planning an interesting event Thursday evening — just two days before Focus on the [...]

Alan Chambers Responds to Gay Pride Month Declaration

June 8, 2009
Thumbnail image for Alan Chambers Responds to Gay Pride Month Declaration

From Charisma Magazine Online:
Ultimately, the biggest problem I have with Obama’s proclamation is our difference of opinion on what is truly worth celebrating. I chose to leave gay life more than 18 years ago because the self-indulgent, empty pursuits I encountered there are certainly not worth commemorating. It’s the life I live now as a [...]

Big Hollywood (Conservative Blog) Defends Adam Lambert’s Silence

June 3, 2009
Thumbnail image for Big Hollywood (Conservative Blog) Defends Adam Lambert’s Silence

This is a thoughtful article. Here is an excerpt (emphasis mine):
Adam has acknowledged feeling pressure from some quarters to use his sexuality and “alternativeness” to influence how America views related social issues. Contrary to helping those in the gay community, they are doing Adam and the gay community a disservice. By pressuring Adam [...]

New Hampshire Legalizes Homosexual Marriage

June 3, 2009

From CitizenLink:
New Hampshire today became the sixth state to allow homosexual “marriage,” after the state House and Senate passed a new version of the legislation and Gov. John Lynch signed it.
Lawmakers apparently reached a compromise on the controversial legislation, which still fails to protect the religious liberties of individuals and small businesses. The law will [...]

Of Bridges and Rivers – Living In Dynamic Friendship

June 2, 2009

Back in the late ’90’s I was part of a project called Bridges Across (BA).  I learned a lot from that experience and appreciated the time I spent there but glad I moved on when I did.  It was a project that brought gay activists and people on a post-gay journey together to dialog about [...]

Washington Activists Threaten Voter Intimidation During Petition Process

June 1, 2009

According to Queerty (obviously a gay blog … that loves soft porn … click the second link below at your own discretion) blogged that WhoSigned.Org is going to “… Publicly Shame Any Washington Resident Who Opts for Inequality.”  Queerty, not surprisingly, loves the idea.
Is inciting street level door to door hatred and potential violence a [...]

Prop 8 Traumatic Stress Disorder

May 26, 2009

My friend and colleague Jeff Buchanan writes from a unique and interesting perspective about Prop 8 for Charisma Magazine Online. From Prop 8 Traumatic Stress Disorder:

The interesting thing about fear is that it desensitizes us to the needs of others by causing us to be preoccupied with our own concerns. When the church does [...]

Prop 8 & Gay Marriages Upheld

May 26, 2009

While I am glad the court acted like the court and submitted to the CA state Constitution instead of rewriting it … they aren’t out of the quagmire yet.  They also decided to allow the current same sex marriages to stand.  From The LA Times:
10:08 AM PDT, May 26, 2009 Reporting from San Francisco — [...]

Does Confronting Insensitive Christian Friends = Compromise? – Ask It Basket

May 1, 2009

A facebook friend sent me the following message (my response after the jump):
I am starting to be bothered more and more by the amount of what some
people would classify as homophobic comments coming from my Christian
peers. I would classify at least some of it more charitably as
unthinking comments (ie, the traditional 'that's gay'). But also [...]

The Way To Go Is The Way We Have Come – Stopping True Hate Crimes

April 29, 2009

Below was in an email I got from my friend Cat in DC. (more and my thoughts after the jump)

IN THE HOUSE
The House is scheduled to vote TODAY on H.R. 1913, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009.  This bill would make “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” federally protected classes under the [...]
