On Philosophers and Creators – Holland Davis Responds

I sent my post on The Rise of the Modern Day Levite to some of my friends and I wanted to include a response from Holland Davis:

There are philosophers and creators…. philosophers talk about what they want to do… creators just do it…

There are alot of philosphers in the church that just talk about what they want to do and how they wish that they would be allowed to do it… the creators just do it and let the chips fall where they may…

We just planted a church called Worship Life… we’re just going to create and see what happens. I encourage all the other creators to do the same… and if it means they have to create outside the walls of the church… then let’s see if they really take the gospel with them or if they are just looking for their own personal self expression.

That’s how I’ve always lived out my art.

Very good points.  It does seem that the purely creative person doesn’t wait for someone to open the door for them, or just sit around talking about creating … they create.

Let’s join them.

Pat Robertson Creates Worldwide Distraction and Consternation

What can be said at this point that hasn’t already been said?  For context, Pat stated that the Haiti Quake was because the country made a pact with Satan to earn its independence. Danny Glover ties the earthquake as a response to the lack of action out of Copenhagen’s Global Warming pow-wow.

After the fact armchair prophesy, which this is … not exactly trustworthy.

::: running my hands through my hair trying to restrain the snippy :::

I thought about writing about this personally but there are a lot of really good responses to Pat’s statement already out there.

The Gospel According to Clever Rudeness

I’ve noticed a growing trend that some Christians are adopting a worldly snarkiness and belittling toward other Christians.  And it isn’t just the young being rebellious or the old being cantankerous.  It’s all across the board.  It’s as if some of us are reveling in the idea that we can join with the world in just bashing old school, institutionalized, quirky, far right, far left or not “relevant” Christians. Then, when those who are judged to have the wrong modern approach defend themselves, they are then criticized for being defensive and even more judgmental.

Old ways of imposing judgment based legalism are being supplanted by a new “more relevant” more “inclusive” way of imposing judgment based legalism. Both of which alienate, pigeonhole and promote ones own brand of living out the gospel as the only right way of living out the gospel.  Legalism used to be imposed with stern looks, harsh rules and stoic heartlessness.  Now it’s being delivered in heartless and flippant humor, personal attacks and shockingly permissive disrespect.

Notice that heartless is the only constant theme I have for the spread of legalism through modern times.  I am sure it is a theme of legalism throughout church history.
